For your consideration is this marvelous chatelaine purse circa 1900 that I purchased in Sheffield on my recent buying trip to England. A chatelaine was a clasp or hook that hung from the belt of a Victorian lady upon which was hung various useful items of the lady's choosing. Often you will find sovereign holders or scissors, needle cases, match safes, thimbles, compacts, note pads and pencils, et cetera, all housed in miniature silver cases making them quite decorative pieces of 'useful' jewelry.
This purse measures 3 by 2.5 inches and is a approximately 1 inch deep at it's widest point. It is silver plated and English made. There is a stamping of 'EPNS' on the back denoting this. The leather lining is original and in pristine condition.
Truly a fine piece!
